Taken from the harbourside of Dartmouth. The mist is rolling in over the hills but hasn’t yet covered the bright fishermen’s cottages in Kingswear.

In Montpellier there was a fence near the viaduct which had the most fantastic wrought iron railings. The ends of the fence were capped with twisting S shapes of spiky metal creating a stunning effect.

This picture was taken in Saint-Guilhem-le-D??sert whilst on holiday last June in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. Saint-Guilhem is an incredibly beautiful village above the gorge of the Herault River (itself a stunning shade of blue). The narrow sandy coloured streets climb between the river and the hills on an old pilgrim route. The remains of an ancient castle are visible in the cliffside in this photo. The village still has a large monastery at its heart but is more well known now for the artists and artisans who live and work in the village.

Taken on 21st March 2010 with Sony A200 and edited in Camerabag for Mac using Lolo, Instant and ColorCross filters with reprocessing.
I used to visit the Isle of Wight as a child but the faded look is sadly appropriate as a lot of the island felt like it was still stuck in the 1950's. On a sunny day at the end of March it was hard to find places – particularly in Sandown – open for business; shops were run down or empty, buildings in need of a coat of paint. There is a vicious circle in the idea of a "tourist season" – act like there is one and it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The tourists won't come to visit if nowhere is open for business, and then you can't make the money and then you won't be left with a business to open. The places that were open (some parts of Shanklin, all of Godshill) illustrated that the business was there if the effort to attract it was made. There is after all a reason Cornwall and The Lake District do good business all year round…This photo of Winchester Cathedral was taken on 19th March 2010 with my Sony A200. This is a fabulous passageway leading from the front of the cathedral towards the area of the Deanery and Winchester School. The vast amount of stonework and flying buttresses illustrates the remarkable superstructure that was required to hold up one of these enormous buildings.

This was quite strange. The family graves in the churchyard are covered in heather.
