Thought for the day

When considering the adoption curve for technology ideas move from innovation (early adopters) to ubiquity (majority) as they become more convenient. This was accurately described by James McQuivey at the Forrester Consumer Marketing Forum last week as being:

Convenience = Benefits – Barriers

Barriers include obvious factors such as price but also elements such as ease-of-access. As an example, you may really want to stream TV shows over the internet (it’s beneficial) but if your network infrastructure isn’t up to it then the barrier outweighs the benefit.

It’s essential to consider when developing sites or solutions both the benefits and barriers of what you are trying to achieve. Make it convenient for people and you stand a better chance of being adopted.
